AI Ready Rack: Preparing Your Data Center for the AI Revolution

As AI technologies advance, the infrastructure supporting these systems must evolve to meet increasing demands. For IT professionals and data center managers looking to stay ahead of the curve, the correct IT infrastructure that prepares them to be “AI Ready” is crucial. Here’s what makes an AI Ready Rack essential for the future of data centers.

Expanded Dimensions for Next-Gen Equipment

Traditional data center server racks, typically 600mm (about 24in) wide, often fall short of the needs for deeper servers, increased cabling, higher power density, and advanced cooling systems like liquid cooling CDU and manifolds. AI Ready Racks address these requirements with wider dimensions, often measuring 700mm (about 28in), 750mm (about 29.5in), or even 800mm (about 31.5in). A depth of 1.4m (about 55in) is becoming a standard to house these advanced systems, while racks with heights of 48U and 52U are now mainstream to provide ample space for the growing number of components.

Superior Load-Bearing Strength

The increased content in AI Ready Racks necessitates stronger structures. These racks must support static loads of up to 2000kg (4400 lb) to accommodate the heavy equipment used in AI applications. Additionally, the ability to move these racks post-installation is crucial. Dynamic load capacity, up to 1500kg (3300 lb), ensures safe movement without compromising the equipment’s integrity.

Seamless Rack and Roll Deployment

A significant trend in reducing deployment time is the “Rack and Roll” method. This involves assembling and testing the rack-level infrastructure at the factory and then transporting it to the site for final integration, power-up, and network testing. This method requires the entire rack to withstand the rigors of transportation by road, rail, sea, and air, including bumps, shocks, vibrations, and drops, all while protecting the equipment inside.
AI Ready Racks are built to handle up to 1350kg (3000 lb) of loaded transportation without additional reinforcement and have passed the ISTA3E transport test. Options to enhance the rack structure are also available to meet even higher load-bearing transportation requirements.

Integration of Liquid Cooling

To accommodate the advanced cooling requirements of AI systems, our AI Ready Rack features designated positions and interfaces for liquid cooling components such as the Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU) and manifold. This thoughtful design ensures that the liquid cooling infrastructure can be seamlessly integrated and maintained. The installation of the CDU and manifold is streamlined by the inclusion of precisely defined key components within our product, facilitating efficient setup and operation. This comprehensive approach not only enhances cooling efficiency but also ensures the scalability and reliability necessary for cutting-edge AI applications.

Conclusion

AI Ready Racks are essential in modern data centers, offering the necessary dimensions, load-bearing capacity, and transport durability to support advanced AI systems. As data center demands continue to grow, these racks will play a pivotal role in ensuring reliable, efficient, and scalable infrastructure.
